For sale: 1960s-designed Lelant house in St. Ives, Cornwall

Lelant1

A modern(ist) house in a rural setting just outside St. Ives, this Edward Paynter-designed Lelant house could be the perefct house if you fancy a move to the country – and if you have the money to buy it.

Paynter designed the house for himself in the late 60s to make the most of the local views and according to the house details, has been 'sympathetically maintained to a high standard by the current owner', which is always a good thing. Sat on a half acre plot, the house has a distincive design that incorporates a first floor sun terrace and floor-to-ceiling glazing in the principal rooms, along with an L-shaped living area, a double height section and a concrete-poured fireplace. As you would expect from a top-end architect, the detailing and working materials are second to none, including slate floors, timber ceilings.

Fotoburst frame by Umbra

Fotoburst

Referencing those sunburst designs from the 1950s to the 1970s is this fotoburst frame by Umbra. While the instantly recognisable metallic 'rays' are in place, the centre replaces the traditional clock face or mirror with a photo frame.

This contemporary play on a classic design is the work of Michelle Ivankovic. The frame is double sided and each holds two 3 x 4cm photos. A set of three costs £18 making it a reasonable price to pay for an alternative way to display your photographs.

Chocolate Splat Clock by Pilot Design

Il_430xN_86418580

Ignore the unappealing sounding name for the Chocolate Splat Clock is a rather attractive piece with more than a little retro style.

It is made from Kona Blend pattern laminate on MDF, which is a rich dark colour, rather similar to the retro favourite Walnut. The “splat” part of the clock is a cut out pattern backed with white MDF for contrast. The clock hands are available in a choice of aluminium or painted in either blue, green, red, orange or yellow.

The clock costs $45 (around £30) and happily is available for shipping worldwide. Buy online from Pilot Design’s Etsy shop.

Clare Nicolson ‘minis’ wall hangings

Nicolson wallhangings

Following on from yesterday's Ihmemaa print, here's some more textile art for your walls. We've featured many of Clare Nicolson's textile's designs before: her charming digitally printed fabric draw on a mixture of vintage fabrics and paper to create brand new patterns. She's recently expanded her range to include the 'minis' wall hangings

It's a range of five designs, presumably named because – at 21 x 29cm – they are much smaller than her 'birdie' wall hangings. The two hangings shown both have clear retro style: the design on the left is called Vincent and features one of her trademark birds, the one on the right has been titled folklore in a self-explanatory manner. Both come stretched over a wooden frame for hanging and cost £40 each.
