Twiggy Sideboards

Item_35154Sideboards fell out of favour in the eighties when minimalism ruled design, but before then the sideboard was a feature of most homes, either in the lounge, dining room or hallway. Now the sideboard seems to be making something of a comeback, probably because people are realising it is an incredibly useful piece of furniture.

Purves & Purves have a whole range of sideboards by the Swedish designer, Rutger Anderson, the Twiggy Sideboards. Not only do these sideboards embody retro Scandinavian style, they are named after a 1960’s icon! Twiggy Sideboards are available in ivory or anthracite, and with a range of drawer and size options.

The one pictured here is the most expensive in the set, costing £435.

HMV offers reissued Stylophone – exclusively in white

Hmv_stylophone

Last week we featured the newly-reissued Stylophone, which is being offered for sale by Firebox in October. But if you don’t want to wait that long, you should get yourself down to HMV, which is offering the new Stylophone now – and in white.

Just like the black version, this one has all the new features, including the volume control, the MP3 function so you can play along and the new sounds to play alongside the classic sound. But if you want one in white, you can only get in from HMV – and only while stocks last.

Powered by 3x batteries (not included), it retails in the retro packaging for £14.99.

Ikea’s Fado lighting range

Ikea_fado

It's been around for a  while, but if you're looking for some simple and stylish retro-styled lighting, the Ikea Fado range is certainly worth looking at.

There are two lights – the pendant lamp and the pendant downlighter. Both feature a large mouth-blown glass shade that gives off some serious light, with the pendant  also offering a long cable that can be adjusted to almost any height – big or small. In the a 70s-styled room, both really look the part.

And for very little outlay – the downlighter retails for £19.99, while the pendant light sells for £23.

Update: The lights above are no longer available. However, you can still buy the Fado table lamp – or check out the wider Ikea lighting range here.

Marc Jacobs for Pan Am retro travel bag

Marc_panam

An old bag made more fashionable? Or a classic bag ruined? Well, I’m guessing opinion is split on this Marc Jacobs for Pan Am retro travel bag.

On the one side, it looks like a classic Pan Am weekend-style bag, with that typical white on blue colour scheme, as well as a double zip and hand strap. But that Marc Jacobs signature? That’s going to have you reaching for your wallet or running a mile!

Only available in limited quantities, you can pick it up for $149 (around £75).

Loose Lips Might Sink Ships wartime print

Loose
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you will know that last year’s surprise print success was the Keep Calm And Carry On poster. Originally available as a poster for under £4, it was reissued as an art print – and just kept on selling. Now, the people behind that have a new wartime image on offer – the Loose Lips Might Sink Ships print.

Probably lacking the same double-edged meaning as the original, this one is still eye-catching and quirky – and might be good to hang on the office wall if you have a gossip problem!

Printed in an ocean blue colour onto soft recycled paper and sized at 60cm x 42cm, it retails online for £18 plus postage. And it is limited to just 100 copies.
