Mini creates retro-style electric scooter for the modern-day mod

Scoot1

According to the Der Spiegel site, BMW's Mini offshoot is moving into the scooter market. Specifically the electric scooter market – and with a retro twist.

As you can see from the image above, the company has already given the 'mod treatment' to one of its new bikes, described as 'a new generation of scooters', which will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. The mod version is described as the 'Anglophile' and is being pitched at 'modern-day mods'. Eco-friendly ones anyway.

USB Retro Mobile MP3 Player – shaped like an 80s brick mobile phone

Brick

Is it a mobile phone from the 1980s? Or is it an MP3 player? Well, as the name suggests, the USB Retro Mobile MP3 Player from Brando is the latter, but shaped like the former.

Yes, shaped like a 'brick' phone, it actually plays your MP3/WMA files, holds a microSD card for storage and hooks up to your PC via USB. There's even an FM radio and rechargeable battery to finish things off.

What do all those buttons do? No idea, but you can have fun finding out. The price is $23 from Brando directly, which is a paltry £14.66.

Official Etch A Sketch case for Apple’s iPad

Etch_ipad

Got an iPad? Want to give it a retro twist? You need the official Etch A Sketch case.

Yes, you can turn your expensive Apple touchscreen tablet into a 50-year-old toy, courtesy of Headcase, with the added bonus of the case protecting your investment thanks to the impact-resistant plastic construction.

All your slots and switches are left exposed (should you be worried) and a retractable kick stands allow you to either lay your iPad flat, or angle it for use with the iPad keyboard. Want one? You can pick it up online for $39. Sadly those knobs at the bottom don't offer up added control. Oh well.

eBay watch: 1970s space age Atomium desk clock

Atomic

I'm not sure the image above does this justice, so check out the full listing of this 1970s space age Atomium desk clock to see some close-up shots. It's an impressive thing.

With a case made of black and transparent perspex and a clock mechanism built into the base, the clock's hands are a mix of three-dimensional rings and chrome-plated balls. So how do you tell the time? Simple – you look down and see the time based on that structure and base. There's also a 'seconds' hand that (as you might guess) constantly moves, creating an object that's both practical and attention-grabbing.

It still works perfectly and is powered by a single AA battery. Unsurprisingly, there's already interest in this, but the bidding is still at just £21. A real bargain.

For sale: The House That Jack Built 1930s art deco house in Louth, Lincolnshire

Lincoln1

Designed in 1931, The House That Jack Built was actually built by Thomas Dalgleish McLean, the winner of a competition to create 'a married man's ideal of a home' and shown off at the Ideal Home exhibition prior to its construction. Almost 80 years on and it's still a house that can turn heads. If it turns yours, this impressive property is on the market right now.

You'll find it in hillside in Louth, 26 miles from Lincoln, with 'panoramic' views of the town from the three-storey property. Externally, you could be stepping back in time, but like most deco houses in the UK, the interior has been made, for better or worse, into something more in keeping with the modern era.
